Who Am I?

who-am-i

Who am I? One question, that leads to many possibilities. That has been a question I have been asking myself ever since I was born. To this day, I don’t know who I am and I am still on the road to finding out.

I find this question very complicated as you can’t define yourself in just one word. A name may say who you are but what is in a name. What does your name say about you? You are not put into this world knowing who you are. The world doesn’t tell you who you are; instead it is a journey into finding out. And so my journey begins from being a little new born baby named Andrew to an ordinary high school teenager.

Being a teenager is a big step in life as you aren’t so little like you used to be anymore. You are starting to grow up and become an adult and make decisions for yourself. You are going on your own life journey and finding your voice. But, people expect many things from you. They expect you to grow up and start taking care of yourself, having some responsibility. But really all you want to do is be a kid again. Staying trapped in your own little world and have people evolved around you. They expect you to be like the other teens. The ones who are tall and have their future planned out already, when you don’t even know what you want to have for lunch. They want you to be like the idyllic teens that play sports and are involved in every school club. The ones, who are involved in out of school activities, have a job and stay on top of their grades. But why do I have to be like them? Why can’t I just be my own self and do what my heart desires? It seems nearly impossible to accomplish these things, when life really doing what your love and finding the balance between work and fun.

Sometimes these expectations of you get in the way of you living your own life. When really these people are trying to care for you and looking out for your best interest. We can’t always do everything that will make people happy instead we must do things that make us happy. We aren’t some Disney movie where everything goes happily ever after. Not everything in life will go the way you plan it to be, no matter how hard you try.

So, who am I? Well my name is Andrew. I am just like any other kid but with a different story to tell. I do like to say I am different from other teens my age as I am a kid at heart. I enjoy doing kid things like coloring books and playing with my stuffed animals. I don’t play many video games or sports, because I’m not very good at them. School is a number one priority for me as I do care for my education and my future. I enjoy being involved in my school and my community, such as Yearbook, LINK Crew, and Student Union. Some of my favorite hobbies are watching Disney movies, hanging out with my family and friends and reading. Though, I have a hard time finding a book I enjoy reading, I do the best to read as much as I can.

Every day I am exploring myself, seeing what I love and what I don’t like. The things that I do in life shapes who I am today. Finding your own voice is complicated as it takes great courage to be yourself and find the essence of your life. I like to say that I am an optimistic person trying to look at the bright side of things. I enjoy laughing everyday and making people laugh along with me. You know what they say, “A day without laughter is a day wasted,” a famous quote by Charlie Chaplin that I live by every day.

My life is quite simple but quite complex at the same time. This is just a portion of my life as the rest is still to be explored. I hope you’ll join me soon on my journey to exploring who I am.

You’re new friend,                                                                                                                                                                         Andrew  🙂
